Clemson Rowing Competes in Day Two of Racing at the San Diego Crew Classic

The Tiger rowing team competed yesterday in the second day of racing at the30th annual San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay in San Diego, CA. Clemson’s Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ boats advanced to the petite finals of the Jessop-Whittier Cup and Women’s JV events, respectively.

Racing in the Jessop-Whittier Cup, the Varsity 8+ finished in 6:49.07 taking third. Number 23 Tennessee won the event in a time of 6:46.11. ACC rival Duke finished second posting a time of 6:46.22. The Tigers were followed by Wisconsin (6:51.05), Minnesota (6:51.48), Kansas State (6:55.20), and San Diego State (7:08.86).

The Second Varsity 8+ competing in the Women’s JV event improved on the previous days performance finishing with a time of 7:01.41 earning the third place spot. Taking first was number 17 Texas in 6:49.94 who was followed by number 19 Oregon State. Following the Tigers were Kansas State (7:08.91, Sacramento State (7:11.39) and University of Massachusetts (7:12.19).

“Both boats made huge improvements over Saturday’s races,” said head coach Susie Lueck. “Much better race conditions were more conducive for competitive races and fast times.”

Clemson rowing will return to the water on April 19 as it travels to Charlottesville, VA to compete in the ACC Championships.
