Clemson Rowing Competes Against Iowa

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team raced against the University of Iowa on the first day of the Longhorn Invitational held in Austin, TX.

The Tigers’ novice 8+ boat won their race with a time of 7:15.7 while Iowa’s first novice 8+ boat finished second in 7:33.0. Iowa’s second novice 8+ boat finished third with a time of 7:42.1.

Iowa’s second varsity 8+ recorded a time of 6:47.9 to best Clemson’s second varsity 8+ which finished second with a time of 6:49.2.

In the first varsity 8+ race, Iowa finished the race with a time of 6:36.4 while the Tigers’ first varsity 8+ boat completed the race with a time of 6:44.2

Iowa also claimed the varsity 4+ race, finishing with a time of 7:52.5. Clemson’s varsity 4+ finished the race with a time of 8:26.6.

“I was very pleased with the novice 8+ race. They did an outstanding job, ” said Clemson head coach Susie Lueck. “We are excited to build on that in our two races tomorrow. I was a little disappointed in the second varsity 8+ and varsity 8+ placings but hopefully we can improve on some things we learned in today’s races and use those in tomorrow’s races. The weather is great and we are looking forward forward to more racing tomorrow.”

The Clemson rowing team will compete against SMU Sunday morning and Texas Sunday afternoon in the Longhorn Invitational.
