Boston, MA – The Clemson rowing team participated in the 43rd annual Head of the Charles regatta over the weekend. Clemson competed in both the Club 4+ and Championship 8+ races. Both boats posted the highest finishes in Clemson history in Richard Ruggieri’s first appearance as head coach.
The Club 4 team finished 3rd overall, and placed first in the college division with a time of 19:16.405.
“I am pleased to be part of the first Charles medalist crew at Clemson,” said Ruggieri. “It was a boat that worked hard and only found their rhythm recently. We are proud of their determination and effort and the opportunity for our seniors.'”
The Championship 8+ team finished 11th out of 38 boats, and placed 8th in the college division. The Tigers finished the three-mile course with a time of 16:49.010. Clemson improved on its 21st place finish at the Head of the Charles last season.
“In only 5 weeks this team has come together in so many ways. To place 10 spots higher than last year is a strong statement for our women,” said Ruggieri. “We are pleased to be ranked around such strong programs and will continue to learn and grow both as rowers and teammates.”
The Tigers will return to action on November 3 at the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
