Clemson Opens Season Hosting Carolina Cup

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson rowing team opened their 2019 spring campaign on Lake Hartwell on Saturday morning for the annual Carolina Cup.  Clemson, Duke and North Carolina competed for points in hopes of claiming the Daughtry Cup.

Duke won all five races of the morning and totaled 90 points, which earned them their third straight Daughtry Cup. North Carolina and Clemson alternated second and third place finishes, with the Tar Heels edging out the Tigers for second-place with 76 points to the Tigers’ 74.

Clemson’s best performance came from the 1V8+ coxed by Erin Murphy.  The Tigers entered the last 500m in third place, but after a strong sprint finished just ahead of North Carolina with a time of 6:56.90 to the Tar Heels’ 6:57.32.

The Tigers continue their spring racing campaign next weekend when they travel to the Cardinal Invite in Oak Ridge, Tenn. from March 17-18.
