Clemson Claims ACC Crew of the Week Honor

Greensboro, NC –The First Varsity Eight crew for Clemson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Crew of the week for April 14, the ACC announced today.

Clemson’s First Varsity Eight Crew, ranked 16th nationally this week, defeated 19th-ranked Tennessee and UCF in a pair of races during the Virginia Invitational meet at Lake Monticello, Va., just outside of Charlottesville, Va. last Saturday. The Tigers bested the nationally-ranked Volunteers by more than 10 seconds in a time of 6:33.5 to 6:43.7. The Tigers also defeated UCF with a time of 6:39.7 to 6:54.9.

The honor was the second for the Tiger’s First Varsity Eight Crew this year. They were previously honored as the ACC’s Crew of the Week on March 24.

The Tigers first varsity eight boat, ranked 16th nationally by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) poll last week, is composed of Meg Bendik (Marietta, Ga.), Liz Robb (Roswell, Ga.), Grace Wolff (Chanhassen, Minn.), Stefanie Kozuszek (Pickneyville, Ill.), Hilary Cumbest (Nashville, Tenn.), Brittany Cummings (Virginia Beach, Va.), Carla Englund (Annapolis, Md).

Clemson’s 1V8+ Crew edged out a similar outstanding performance from Virginia’s First Varsity Eight crew, which also defeated the 19th-ranked Volunteers and UCF at Lake Monticello. The Cavaliers winning time of 6:36.8, in besting Tennessee, was just three seconds slower than that posted by Clemson.
