#8 Clemson Looks To Remain Undefeated In First Friday Match-Up Against VCU

Clemson Notes:

  • The Tigers remained undefeated in 2017 as they downed SEC foe, No. 20 Auburn 2-1 on Friday, Aug. 25 and UNCG 4-0 on Sunday, Aug. 27.
  • Graduate Jenna Polonsky scored in the 17th minute against Auburn, and in the 102nd minute, freshman Mariana Speckmaier gave the Tigers the double-overtime win with a goal that was assisted by Sam Staab and Jeni Erickson.
  • Erickson, Polonsky, Miranda Weslake and Shannon Horgan all found the back of the net against UNCG.
  • Head Coach Eddie Radwanski returned to UNCG for the first time since taking over the Clemson women’s soccer program in 2011. Radwanski spent 10 years as head coach of the Spartans and amassed a 139-65-13 record and led the Spartans to five NCAA tournament appearances during his tenure.
  • Speckmaier and Polonsky are both tied for fifth in the nation in goals (4),while Polonsky is tied for second in the nation in points (11) and ranks eighth in points per game (2.75).
  • As a team, Clemson is tied for fourth in total assists (13) and is ranked ninth in total points (34.0).
  • Sophomore Sandy MacIver earned her first two starts and wins of the 2017 season against Auburn and UNCG, after returning from her time in Northern Ireland with the England U-19 National Team competing at the U-19 EUROs.

VCU Notes:

  • The Rams are off to a 3-0 star in 2017t, netting 10 goals and only allowing one.
  • Amanda Tredway is leading the team with six points and three goals.
  • Goalkeeper Audrey Sanderson was named A10 Defensive Player of the Week for her five saves and the clean sheet victory over Liberty to open the season.

Series Notes:

  • Clemson has a 1-1-1 record in the series against VCU, which dates back to 2005, in which the Rams defeated the Tigers, 3-1.
  • The last regular season meeting between the two teams was a 4-1 victory for Clemson on Aug. 31, 2014 at VCU’s Sport Backers Stadium.
  • This will be the first time the two teams meet at Historic Riggs Field.

Tickets may be purchased at the gate prior to the match, or online HERE. The ticket office will open on Friday at 4 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field and stay open until halftime of the men’s match. One ticket will allow entrance for both the women’s match against and the men’s match against South Carolina that follows. Reserved tickets are $10, Adult General Admission tickets are $8, Youth/Senior General Admission tickets are $5, and Group (10+) General Admission tickets are $3.
