Cagle Named an NFCA All-Region Honoree

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson softball’s Valerie Cagle has been named a National FastPitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Southeast selection, the organization announced on Thursday. Cagle led the charge with a First Team selection as a pitcher/utility for the third-consecutive year and was a First Team All-American in 2022 after being a Second Team honoree in 2021.

Cagle, a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top Three Finalist, continues to rake in the honors this season. The Yorktown, Virginia, native is the reigning ACC Player of the Year, an All-ACC First Team member and was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team last week. The redshirt junior leads the Tigers with a .457 average, .889 slugging percentage and .544 on-base percentage. She has clocked 74 hits, including 23 multi-hit games, with 18 home runs, 14 doubles and one triple. She has tallied 53 RBIs, scored 46 runs and stole five bases. A dual threat, Cagle holds a 1.20 ERA through 33 appearances with 23 victories and three saves. Through 169 innings of work, she has struck out 177 while only allowing 16 extra-base hits. She has seven solo shutouts, which leads the ACC. In total, she leads the ACC in seven categories both offensively and defensively and ranks in the top 15 in the NCAA in nine categories, including the top 10 in five.

The Tigers return to the diamond on Friday in the opening game of the 2023 Clemson Regional against UNC Greensboro. First pitch of Friday’s game is slated for 1 p.m. on ESPNU.
