Race Schedule and Lane Draw
Clemson, SC – The 15th-ranked Clemson Women’s Rowing team will host their third regatta of the spring season Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 am on Lake Hartwell.
“We are excited to welcome Syracuse, Indiana, Boston University, Alabama, Purdue and Marist to Clemson for our race on Saturday morning,” said Clemson Head Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to get in an exciting seven-boat race early in the season. Many of our early season races tend to be duels between just two schools, but with six other crews in our race, our athletes know they need to be on their game to be able to get across the finish line first. The entire women’s rowing team has had a fantastic week of practice and we are all looking forward to the competition on Saturday. I am very proud of our team, and excited to watch our progress during the race.”
Each of the six races Saturday will feature a full field of seven boats. The 1st Varsity 8 boats will race first, beginning at 9:00 AM, followed by the 2nd Varsity 8 race at 9:20. The 1st Varsity 4 race will begin at 9:40, followed by the Novice 8 at 10:00 and the 3rd Varsity 8 at 10:20. The final race of the day will be the 2nd Varsity 4, beginning at 10:40.
“Our race course is perfect for hosting this type of event,” Tenenbaum continued. “We can line up seven boats across and have a very fair competition on our home race course.”
– Sophomore Katie Bruggeling was named the Vickery Hall Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 7, 2011. In the Tigers’ first regatta of the spring season, Bruggeling’s leadership and drive throughout the days leading up to and on race day proved to be vital as the weather conditions were not optimal. Bruggeling coxed the Varsity 8 boat to what was a close race early, but which the Tigers were able to edge ahead and continue to widen the gap to finish with an eight second win over a Northeastern University team that had a stellar fall racing season, finishing fifth at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
– The preseason USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division I Coaches Polls, that include 1st Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 boats, were released yesterday, with the Tigers in the 15th spot. The only other ACC-school ranked in the Top-20 is Virginia, who captured the #1 overall spot.
