Clemson’s Holden signs for Sunderland in England

Stuart Holden, sophomore at Clemson has just signed for Sunderland AFC who are currently placed second in the Coca Cola League Championship in England. Stuart left Clemson early in December 2004 to turn professional and had interest from a number of clubs including Everton and Sunderland.

In April 2004 while at Clemson, Stuart was called up to the U-20 USA National Squad and gained 10 caps, scoring two goals and two assists against the likes of Brazil, Denmark, Poland, South Korea, Jamaica, Turkey, Wales and Northern Ireland.

His summer was capped off when he trained in Houston with Everton of the English Premier League and was invited back for a two week trial in England. This went well and following a successful fall season at Clemson, Stuart returned to the UK in January for further trials with Everton and Sunderland.
