Young Qualifies for US Amateur

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson golfer Carson Young qualified for the 2015  United States Amateur thanks to a 134 score for 36 holes at the United States Amateur Qualifier at Columbia Country Club in Columbia, S.C. July 6-7.

Young had rounds of 64-70 for his eight-under-par score of 134, three shots better than second place Josh Lorenetti of the College of Charleston.  This will be Young’s second appearance at the U.S. Amateur.  The rising junior qualified for the stroke play portion in 2013 at the Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

This year’s United States Amateur will be held at Olympia Fields Country Club near Chicago, Ill.  The 115th US Amateur will be played August 17-23.

Young had an injury riddled 2014-15 season as he sustained a knee injury last summer.  He played in just six of Clemson’s 14 tournaments and had a 75.75 average.  He finished third at the Hummingbird Invitational and had a season best 67 at the Ka’anapali Invitiational in Hawaii in November.
