CLEMSON, S.C. – Head Coach Jordan Byrd announced the addition of Jackson Byrd (Saint Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy), Tip Price (Greenville, S.C./Greenville HS) and Samuel Duran (Panama City, Panama/International School of Panama) to the Clemson University men’s golf program and will begin playing in the fall of 2025.
The recruiting class ranks seventh nationally by College Golf Commits, 10th by NBC Golf and ninth by Golfweek for the 2025 cycle. All outlets have also listed Jackson Byrd as a top 10 player in the country (NBC Golf – 5th; Golfweek – 6th; College Golf Commits – 7th).
“We couldn’t be more excited about the 2025 class that has signed with Clemson,” said Byrd. “These three young men will make an immediate impact on our team and for years to come. All three come from outstanding families that have sacrificed for their children and raised great young men. All three are men of character and integrity that have high aspirations for their games.”
“Jackson Byrd comes to Clemson with more international team competition than any golfer in Clemson history. He has represented the United States on the Junior Ryder Cup team (Italy) the Junior Presidents Cup Team (Canada) and the Toyota Cup Team in Japan. He also represented the East on the Wyndham Cup Team. The only way to be chosen for these teams is by great play which Jackson has accomplished with wins at The Ping Invitational, second place at Jr. PGA, third place at the Ralph Lauren Junior Classic. These are all huge events across the country.”
“Jackson possesses an elite skill set and has the speed and strength to compete at any level at this time. I can’t be more excited about my opportunity, as his uncle, to help guide him along this journey and help him reach the goals he has for our team and for his individual game.”
Byrd is the son of Clemson great Jonathan Byrd and was ranked fifth among all juniors and second among the 2025 class. He is a 2024 AJGA First Team All-American and three-time All-American.
Byrd finished first at The PING Invitational in October shooting a seven-under-par 209 (69-71-69). It was his third top 10 finish since November 2023. He was also a member of the East Wyndham Cup Team and President’s Cup Team in 2024.
He earned one of 12 spots on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team that competed against the European Team in September 2023. He secured his spot with a runner-up finish at the 2023 Junior PGA Championship.
Byrd was the 2022 GIAA Class 3A-4A Individual State Champion and won the 2021 Matt NeSmith Junior Championship.
“We are so thankful that Tip Price has joined our team as a Tiger,” said Byrd. “Tip comes from a great family that is supportive and has allowed him to chase his dreams. Since Tip lives close by and plays out of Greenville CC, we have heard stories for many years of his incredible work ethic and determination. Tip is a big strong athlete that possesses serious speed with the same smooth rhythm of an Ernie Els – seemingly effortless power. His fundamentals have really improved in the last few months, and I believe he will truly blossom in college golf to an elite player.”
Price won over 10 high school events throughout his career and qualified for the U.S. Junior in 2023. He had four top 10 finishes in 2023 and 2024, including winning the Morgan Lucas Championship and finishing third at the AJGA Will Lowery Championship.
He shot a final round 74 to help lead Greenville to a Greenville County High School Championship last May.
He won the Hurricane Invitational in 2023 and led Greenville to a second-place finish – shooting a 73-70. Price led Greenville to a Greenville County High School Championship, it’s second-straight, in 2023. He shot a 1-under-par 70 to tie for medalist honors.
Price won Drive, Chip and Putt at Augusta National for 10-11 Division in 2018.
“Sam comes from a great family that is heavily involved in golf in Panama,” said Byrd. “He has grown up watching and competing against the Korn Ferry players in the Panama Open which will only help him in college. He has a ton of international experience playing in a variety of tournaments. The main thing I love about Sam is he knows how to win golf tournaments. Sam has won a ton of tournaments in his junior career, and I believe he will bring that same winning mindset and experience to our program.”
Duran joins the Tigers after solid performances this year. Duran is the No. 1 ranked junior golfer in Panama and a three-time Central American Junior Champion. He most recently made the cut at the 2024 Latin American Amateur Championship. Duran played in the 2023 Panama Championship Korn Ferry Tour event.
He finished tied for 10th at the AJGA Panama Junior. He took 27th at the Junior Orange Bowl International Championship, which included a first round 67. He has won his last four junior events in Panama.
He is currently Top 450 in the World Golf Amateur Rankings.
