Preview

Earning the tournament 4-seed while holding the fifth position in the United Soccer Coaches rankings, the Tigers look to get off to a hot start at the ACC Championship where they will face off with a familiar foe in tournament 5-seed and current sixth team in the nation, Duke, in the ACC Quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The teams played a hard-fought battle that the Clemson squad came just short on earlier this season, but with a new match on the horizon, the Tigers look to even the all-time record which currently stands in the Blue Devils’ favor at 14-13-1.

With 2020 staying true to tight matches, it replicates the intense history of the two sides. In fact, Clemson’s last win against the Blue Devils came in 2016 by a 1-0 scoreline where the Tigers secured the ACC regular-season title. Throughout all matches, 15 games between the two sides have been decided by one goal.

Despite the long history of the two, the Tigers and Blue Devils have only faced off in the ACC Championship twice (2000 & 2002) where the record remains level at 1-1-0.

Last Time Out

Clemson has relied heavily on its stout goalkeeping all season, including this year’s match against the Blue Devils. Highly touted freshman Halle Mackiewicz made her first career start earlier this year when the No. 3 Tigers faced the No. 11 Blue Devils in Durham, N.C.

• The match was decided by a 1-0 score which came off the foot of Olivia Migli, but the Tigers outshot the Blue Devils 10-5 after notching 8 shots in the second half alone.

• Another key piece of Clemson’s last match against Duke came in the form of set-pieces where they recorded eight corners in the match after forcing six corners in the second half.

• Clemson played 15 players in the match against Duke while seven players accounted for the Tigers’ shots.
