Women’s Track and Field Squad Captures Clemson Invitational

January 16, 1999

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s track and field team won the Clemson Invitational this weekend at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Tigers scored 126 points for the victory, edging out Western Carolina, who finished second with 96 points.

Sophomore Shekera Weston, an All-American last season as a part of Clemson’s 4x400m relay team, won the 60m in 7.45 and the 300m in 38.69.

Senior distance runner Brantley Epps of Anderson, SC, took first place in the 1,000m for the Tigers, finishing the race in 2:59.78. The Clemson distance medley team also finished first, with a time of 12:07.02.

In the field events, the Tigers had two winners. Freshman Erin Nett from Bel Air, MD, won the pole vault, recording a jump of 11′ 5 3/4″. Sophomore Jamine Moton of Glassboro, NJ, won Friday’s shot put event with a throw of 46′ 11 1/2″.

The Tigers will compete at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg next weekend.
