Women?s Tennis Opens Fall Season

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s tennis team, which finished the 2014 season ranked 13th in the nation, opens individual play for its fall season this weekend. The team is split between the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C. and the Riviera ITA All-American in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The Fall Classic runs from Sept. 26-28, while the All-American is held from Sept. 27-Oct. 5 in various stages.

Beatrice Gumulya, Joana Eidukonyte, Jessy Rompies, Keisha Clousing, Carola Pederzani and Daniela Ruiz are entered in the singles draw at Furman. Three Tiger teams – Gumulya and Rompies, Clousing and Eidukonyte and Pederzani and Ruiz – are scheduled for the doubles draw.

This year’s Furman Fall Classic includes Furman, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Iowa, South Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt at the Furman Fall Classic Sept. 26-28 in Greenville, S.C.

Four Tigers earned bids to compete at the ITA All-American in California. 95th-ranked Tristen Dewar begins play in the Prequalifying Singles tournament on Saturday, while 23rd-ranked Romy Koelzer and Gumulya, currently ranked 62nd, open Tuesday in the Qualifying Singles draw.

Clemson’s eighth-ranked doubles duo of Gumulya and Rompies earned a bid in the Main Draw Doubles bracket beginning Oct. 2. Gumulya and Rompies will make the trip to Pacific Palisades following the conclusion of this weekend’s Furman Fall Classic. Dewar and Koelzer, ranked 45th nationally, in doubles, begin play in the Qualifying Doubles draw on Tuesday.
