CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson’s Women’s Tennis team was defeated by 18th ranked Florida State in a tight match Sunday afternoon, bringing their season record to 5-14, 1-6 in the ACC. The Seminoles’s increased their record to 19-6, 4-2 ACC.
Clemson freshman Carmina Giraldo defeated Gallovits of Florida State 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at number one singles. In the two spot, senior Kate-Maree Mair of Clemson fell to Nanette Duxin, 6-1, 6-4. Junior Tiger Catherine Galvin won her battle over Marina Raic of the Seminoles, 6-4, 6-4, at three singles. Clemson’s Cecilia Hincapie shut down her FSU opponent Kia Asberg, 6-3, 6-2. Clemson sophomore Cinny Clausen fell to the Seminole’s Jessica Balbuena at five singles by a score of 6-2, 6-3. In the six slot, Christina Oldock of Clemson lost a three set match to Ali Weber, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles action, the Tiger’s freshman-senior duo of Carmina Giraldo and Kate-Maree Mair fell to Gallovits and Duxin, 8-5. Clemson’s Hincapie and Clausen were successful over Raic and Balbuena at two doubles by a score of 8-1. At three doubles, Galvin and Meredith Chandler of Clemson were overcome by Asberg and Natalie Carratala of Florida State, 8-5.
Clemson (5-14, 1-6 ACC) will take on Georgia Tech in Clemson next Saturday morning April 17 at 10 am..
