CLEMSON, SC–South Alabama won its ninth match in a row in defeating Clemson 6-3 in a women’s intercollegiate tennis match at Clemson, SC Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, South Alabama improves its record to 14-5 overall, while Clemson falls to 5-9 on the season. The Jaguars are ranked 25th nationally as a team.
South Alabama won the first three singles matches. At number one singles, Vanda Novakova defeated Clemson’s Stefanie Woerz in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
At number two singles, Iva Puflerova of South Alabama defeated Clemson’s Etresia Kruger 7-6, 6-4. Puflerova is ranked 87th nationally in singles. Lenka Jakubekova was also a winner for the Jaguars with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Kate Maree-Mair at number three singles. Jakubekova is ranked 76th nationally in singles.
Clemson’s Cathy Galvin won at number four singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Gaelle Gouttefarde. Devrin Carr also posted a win for the Lady Tigers at number five singles with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Melanie Pieterse.
The Lady Tigers will play at North Carolina on Saturday and at Duke on Sunday in ACC action.
