Women’s Tennis Defeats College of Charleston

COLUMBIA, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team defeated College of Charleston 6-0 in the Tigers’ first match of the season on Monday in Columbia. The match was originally scheduled for Saturday in Clemson, but was moved to Monday due to inclement weather. Clemson swept the singles matches, so the teams did not play the doubles matches.

Leading the way in the first singles flight was Clemson sophomore Carmina Giraldo, who defeated College of Charleston junior Vinny Seiverling in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6. At number two singles Tiger senior Cath Galvin defeated Cougar junior Liorah Levin 6-2, 6-2.

Clemson sophomore Anna Savitskaya defeated freshman Emily Scatuorchio 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles, and freshman Laurence Jayet defeated senior Sabah Sattar 6-0, 6-0 at number four singles. In the fifth singles match, Clemson junior Cinny Clausen beat sophomore Brook Raynal 6-0, 6-0, then freshman Ana Stiglic defeated sophomore Ashley Hawkins 6-2, 6-3 at flight six singles.

Clemson (1-0) will travel to Blacksburg, VA on February 4 to compete in the Virginia Tech Tournament.
