Women’s Tennis Defeats Brenau

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team, ranked 43rd nationally, defeated Brenau 6-3 on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Clemson’s campus. With the win, the Tigers’ record improves to 7-2 overall.

Clemson sophomore Carmina Giraldo, ranked 15th nationally, defeated Leyla Ogar 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles. Brenau won number two and number three singles, with Tonya Grib defeating senior Cath Galvin 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at two, and Libby Fletcher beating freshman Laurence Jayet 6-2, 6-3 at number three. The Tigers were victorious at flights five and six. Freshman Anna Savitskaya defeated Ruimere Dias 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 at number four, and freshman Renata Brito defeated Rosa Perez 6-0, 6-0 at number five. Brenau’s Shan Liey defeated freshman Sunnie Harmon 6-1, 6-2 at number six singles.

The Tigers swept the doubles matches. Brito and Jayet combined to beat Grib and Dias 9-8 at flight one, while Galvin and Giraldo beat Ogar and Liey 8-3 at flight two. At number three doubles, Savitskaya and freshman Ana Stiglic defeated Perez and Fletcher 8-4.
