CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team moved up four positions to #17 in the Fila/ITA Tennis poll, released on Tuesday, Apr. 18. The Tigers defeated 36th-ranked NC State and upset #16 Wake Forest last weekend to improve their record to 15-6 overall with an 8-3 mark against ACC opponents. The top-20 ranking is Clemson’s first since the first poll of the 2006 season on Jan. 31.

In the individual rankings, freshman Federica van Adrichem moved up one position to 53rd in the singles poll. She has won her last three matches, clinching the Tigers’ victories over the Wolfpack and Demon Deacons, to improve to 21-12 on the year. Sophomore Carol Salge, previously unranked, jumped to #61 after posting three wins at the top singles position, including two upsets, since the last rankings. She now boasts a 23-8 overall record with a 16-5 mark in dual matches.

Salge and van Adrichem are also ranked in the doubles poll at the #12 position. The Tiger tandem has recorded a 12-6 ledger during the spring season with five wins over ranked opponents.

Clemson will begin play in the 2006 ACC Tournament on Friday, Apr. 21. The Tigers earned the number four seed and a first-round bye after compiling an 8-3 conference record. They will play the winner of fifth-seeded North Carolina and #12 seed Boston College.
