Four members of the Clemson women’s tennis team closed out play at the Furman Fall Classic on Sunday, while others continued to shine at the Riviera/ITA All-American in Pacific Palisades, CA. Romy Koelzer advanced to the Qualifying bracket, joining teammate Beatrice Gumulya in the draw.
Koelzer won her match, 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-4, over Mai El Kamash of Ole Miss to earn one of eight bids to the 32-player Qualifying tournament. The top eight out of that draw will make the Main Draw later in the week, which also includes Junior All-American Yana Koroleva.
Koelzer also teamed up with Jessy Rompies for an 8-4 win in the second round of the Doubles Prequalifying draw over Lin and Lee from Harvard. They then fell to Dolehide and Van Nguyen from UCLA in the third round to fall one win shy of the Qualifying draw.
At the Furman Fall Classic, Tristen Dewar led the way with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 win over Laurence Guevremont of Tennessee to claim fifth place in the fifth flight. Joana Eidukonyte and Carolina Pederzani each took straight-set losses in their matches. Eidukonyte finished as the flight-three runner-up.
