Women’s Tennis Advances To Semifinals Of ACC Tournament With 4-1 Win Over Wake Forest

CARY, NC – The Clemson women’s tennis team, seeded third, defeated the sixth-seeded Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championships on Friday evening. The Tigers will face the Miami Hurricanes in the semifinals on Saturday at 1:00 PM. With the win, Clemson improved to 18-7 overall.

The Tigers claimed the doubles point with victories at flight one and flight three. The 13th-ranked team of Julie Coin and Alix Lacelarie won its seventh straight match with an 8-4 win over Wake Forest’s Karin Coetzee and Alex Hirsch, the 15th-ranked doubles team. Romy Farah and Carol Salge defeated Danielle Schwartz and Blakely Offutt, 9-7, in the flight three contest to clinch the point for the Tigers.

In singles, Clemson won matches at the flight two, flight five and flight six positions for the victory. Salge easily defeated Schwartz at flight six, 6-1, 6-1, while Alix Lacelarie, 6-2, 6-2.

Clemson and Miami will meet for the second time this season and the match will again showcase the best singles players in the country. In the first meeting, the Hurricanes’ Megan Bradley, the #1-ranked player, defeated #2 Coin, 6-4, 6-4. Miami, the second seed in the tournament, won the match by a score of 4-3.
