CLEMSON, SC – Head women’s tennis coach Nancy Harris announced that Anne-Liz Jeukeng (Boca Raton, FL) and Carola Pederzani (Brescia, Italy) will join the team upon enrollment for the spring semester. Both players will be able to compete for the Tigers in 2013, rounding out Harris’ seven-player roster.
“We are thrilled to have Liz and Carolina join the Tigers and welcome them to the Clemson family,” said Harris. This group will join the group that is already on campus, which was rated the No. 7 class in the country last year. Clemson will have four freshmen and three sophomores, and no juniors or seniors.
Jeukeng is a five-star recruit and top-ten player overall in her class according to tennisrecruiting.net. Jeukeng was originally a member of the 2014 classification, but graduated early and has chosen to enroll at Clemson. She boasts junior wins over some of the top players in the world, including an upset of a former All-American at the age of 14.
“She is going to be a great Tiger as she is hungry to reach her best tennis and will be a great student of the game,” said Harris, whose teams have gone to 11 straight NCAA Tournaments. “Liz is a disciplined student in the classroom and on the court. We are very fortunate to add this great American player to our line-up.”
Jeukeng was born in Cameroon, and moved to the US when she was two, spending nearly nine years in Kansas City, before moving to Boca Raton, FL.
Pederzani won numerous regional tournaments near her home in Italy, and most recently won the women’s singles division of the Hilton Head Open.
Clemson opens play in 2013 with the Clemson Winter Classic from Jan. 18-20, held at the Indoor Tennis Center on campus. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in the country this season, boasting dates with seven of the nation’s top ten in the Jan. 3 ITA Team Rankings, including No. 1 Florida, No. 3 Duke, No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 Georgia, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 9 Miami, and No. 10 Alabama.
Clemson is ranked 22nd in the initial poll, and features three ranked players, led by No. 32 Yana Koroleva.
