Women’s Swimming & Diving Finishes Day Three Of ACC Championships

Chapel Hill, NC – Clemson Women’s Swimming and Diving team fell to sixth place at the ACC Championships at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, NC. Michelle Parkhurst led the way for Clemson as she claimed the silver medal in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.17. North Carolina (497 points) remains in first place for the third straight day, while Florida State (445), Virginia (333.5), Virginia Tech (280), and Miami (256) complete the top five. Clemson is next with 251 points, ahead of Maryland (228), Georgia Tech (111), Duke (110), N.C. State (98.5), and Boston College (60).

Jen Grove got the Friday night session started off by placing 10th in the 100 butterfly with a career best time of 55.78. Senior Mary Paulsen also recorded a career best time of 57.45 to place 23rd. Cassy LaRussa (1:51.43) followed the butterfliers by finishing 16th in the 200 freestyle. Freshman Alexandra Barsanti placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 1:03.24. The time moved Barsanti up to second all-time in school history. Freshman Katrina Obas (1:03.56) placed seventh in the championship finals in the event. Parkhurst then swam to her season best time to finish second by just .03. Sophomore Ashley Clay (57.48) came in 14th for the Lady Tigers. In the final event of the day, the 400 medley relay, the team of Parkhurst, Barsanti, Grove, and Rachel Regone finished fifth with a time of 3:45.57.

Clemson will be back in the pool Saturday morning as they will compete in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 1650 freestyle.
