CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Lady Tigers defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 2-1 in intercollegiate women’s soccer action at Historic Riggs Field today, Sept. 20.

The win evened the Lady Tigers’ record to 3-3 overall (2-1, in the ACC). The loss was just the second of the year for the Demon Deacons as they fall to 4-2-1 overall (1-1, in the ACC).

The Demon Deacons scored first when Stephanie Mathews took a long ball from Emily Taggart, raced half the field and put the ball past Clemson goalie Katie Carson at the 3:18 mark. The Lady Tigers pulled even just before the half on Sara Burkett’s fourth goal of the year. With fifty seconds left, Burkett drew a freekick from 27 yards out when Mathews fouled her from behind. She then placed the ball in the left hand corner of the goal to beat Wake Forest goalie Erin Regan. Sheri Beuter fed Beth Keller form the right side of the field for the game-winning goal at the 55:22 mark. The goal was Keller’s third goal of the season.

The Lady Tigers are ranked 18th in the NSCAA poll and 19th according to Soccer America.
