Women’s Soccer Continues Record Start

CLEMSON, SC – The #2 ranked Clemson Lady Tiger soccer team won their ninth straight match to open the season as they defeated the UNC Asheville Bulldogs 5-0 tonight, September 22, in the second game of the Clemson University Invitational at Historic Riggs Field.

Clemson continues their school record start improving to 9-0 overall. UNC Asheville drops to 1-5-1 on the season.

Freshman Lindsay Browne led all scorers with a goal and two assists. She scored the Lady Tigers’ fourth goal of the first half, as Clemson took the 4-0 lead into the lockerroom. Freshman Alison Mitchell had her first goal as a Lady Tiger, scoring the first goal at the 27:43 mark. Sophomore Deliah Arrington continued her points scoring streak with an assist on Mitchell’s score. This marked the eighth straight game with a point scored. The five goals were all scored by a different Lady Tiger.

The Lady Tigers took a school record 39 shots on goal. All 10 field players that started the game had at least one shot. Junior Leigh Clark had a goal and an assist as well.

This was the fifth shutout of the year for the Lady Tigers.

The Clemson Lady Tigers will play again tomorrow night September 23, as they play host to the Furman Paladins in the fourth and final game of the Clemson University Invitational. The battle of the unbeaten squads (Clemson 9-0, Furman 10-0) begins at 7:00 p.m. with UNC-A and NC State playing at 4:30 p.m.
