CLEMSON, S.C. – Junior defender Claire Wagner received multiple weekly awards after scoring her second goal of the season against No. 5 Notre Dame in the 102nd minute in the match to lift the Tigers over the Irish in the opening weekend of ACC play. The game was scoreless for all of regulation and the first period of overtime until Wagner scored from 24 yards out to give the Tigers their first ACC win in 2015. Wagner is now tied for the team lead in points (7) after scoring two goals and adding three assists from a defender spot.
For her performance, she was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the ACC on Tuesday morning. Wagner is the third Clemson player to earn the conference’s weekly honor this season, as Catrina Atanda and Kailen Sheridan earned the honor earlier in the year.
Wagner was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com team of the week for the second time in 2015 and was also honored with the Capital One Cup Impact Performance of the Week by ESPN.
Wagner and the Tigers go on the road to face Florida State and Miami this weekend before returning home on Friday, Oct. 2 against Wake Forest, when the program will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Historic Riggs Field.
