UNC Asheville Defeats Clemson 2-1

ASHEVILLE, NC–Patrick Tate scored the game winner with 1:38 left to go in the second overtime period (109th minute) to give UNC Asheville a 2-1 win over Clemson in a men’s intercollegiate soccer match at Asheville, NC Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, UNC Asheville improves to 2-7-1 overall, while Clemson falls to 4-7-1 this season.

Patrick Tate scored on a 22-yard diagonal shot from the middle after a pass by Ryan Haupt for his second goal of the season.

Clemson scored in the 23rd minute. Michael Brooks drove the ball down the middle. He passed the ball to Tommy Drake on the left side. Drake crossed the ball to Nathan Thornton who tucked the ball inside the right post for his third goal of the season.

The Bulldogs scored early in the second half (47:12) to tie the match 1-1. Scott Szymanski converted on a breakaway and sent a 18 yard shot into the netting.
