Blacksburg, VA – Travis Padgett set the Rector Field House facility record in the 55m dash after claiming first place in Saturday’s final, leading Clemson’s men’s track & field team on the final day of competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Padgett posted a time of 6.27 seconds, just shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Joey O’Rourke hit a mark of 14’9″.
Corey Brown, a red-shirt sophomore from Charlotte, NC, placed third in the 55m final with a time of 6.30. Padgett was the Tigers’ top finisher at sixth place in the 200m with a time of 22.22, while Cowin Mills (22.68) and Travis Swaggard (22.72).
The 4x400m relay team finished with a time of 3:20.43 and was fourth in the first prelim. In the 400m dash, Mills finished seventh with a time of 49.24 seconds. Swaggard was ninth (49.65), Andrew Porter finished 16th (50.37). In the mile, Tyrone Gayle competed in the 800m (2:00.37) as well.
Three Tigers placed in the top 10 of the 3000m run, led by senior Itay Magidi in fourth. He had a time of 8:10.70, while Matt Clark came in fifth (8:12.38) and Bryce Iverson was 10th (8:31.45).
In the shot put, red-shirt freshman Zach Berg was 22nd out of 36 competitors with a toss of 45’6.5″.
The Tigers return home to host the Clemson Invitational next weekend, January 19-20, at the school’s indoor track & field facility.
