El Paso, TX – Clemson junior D.J. Trahan finished second at the Savane College All-America golf classic in El Paso, TX on Tuesday. Trahan shot a 54-hole score of 203 on the par 71 course that is 6781 yards in length. The event featured the top 24 players in college golf at the El Paso Country Club.
Brad Heaven of Toledo defeated Trahan by one shot with a 202 score. Trahan’s 2003 total included rounds of 66-66-71. Trahan was on track to win the event, as he had a three shot lead with two holes left. But, the native of Inman, SC double-bogeyed the 17th hole, then bogeyed the 18th. Heaven rolled in a 40-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to win the championship.
Still, Trahan completed the greatest fall season in Clemson golf history. He had a stroke average of 69.78, lowest in the nation and best in Clemson history for a fall season. He won two events and finished second in three others.
Trahan and the Tigers will next be in action in late February when the sixth ranked Tigers complete in the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio, Mar.
