Track And Field Teams To Compete In Final Home Meet Of The 2005 Season on Saturday

The Clemson track and field teams will compete in their final home meet of the 2005 season on Saturday at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. The meet will begin at 11:00 AM and conclude at approximately 6:00 PM. This year’s meet will include athletes from Alabama Huntsville, Appalachian State, Benedict, Charlotte, Clemson, Davidson, Emory, Fort Valley State, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, UNC Asheville, Pfeiffer, Savannah State, South Carolina, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Wofford.

The meet is slated to begin at 11:00 AM with the men’s hammer throw and long jump and the women’s pole vault and javelin. Danny Alge will compete in the hammer throw, while Ryan Koontz, Mickey Sheats and Robert Ibeh represent the Tigers in the long jump. Four Lady Tigers are slated to compete in the pole vault, including Helen Kirkland, Mary Armstrong, Beth Jordan and Sara Young. At 1:00 PM, Della Clark, Mikaela Patterson and Catheryne Porter will begin competition in the hammer throw, while Brent Hobbs and Brandon Holmes compete in the javelin throw. Clemson’s Koontz will be the only Tiger in the pole vault at 2:00 PM, and Mickey Sheats will begin his second event of the day, the triple jump, at 3:00 PM. Also at 3:00 PM, Krystal Woods, Porter and Patterson will compete in the discus throw, followed by Felicia Hawthorne and Anni Korhonen in the high jump competition at 4:00 PM. In the final three field events of the day beginning at 4:45 PM, Clark and Allison Bradshaw will represent Clemson in the shot put while Michelle Rogers and Renata Miyamoto compete in the triple jump. Koontz and Derek Gilson will both contest the discus throw at the same time.

On the track for Clemson, Brent Hobbs, Ryan Koontz and Scott Kautz will open competition for the Tigers in the 110m hurdles scheduled for 2:00 PM. At 2:15 PM, Renata Miyamoto, Silja Ulfarsdottir, Polly Hardy and Sierra Hill will represent the Lady Tigers in the 100m hurdles. Warren Eure will contest the 400m dash at 2:45 PM, then Robert Ibeh will compete in the 100m dash at 3:10 PM. Randi Hinton will compete in the women’s 100m dash at 3:20 PM, and Patrice McMillan will be the only Lady Tiger in the 800m run at 3:50 PM. Perry, Cheney, Kautz and Bolling will compete in the 400m hurdles at 4:00 PM, followed by Richards, Ibeh, Eure and Darius Acker in the 200m dash at 4:30 PM. For the Lady Tigers, Hinton will compete in the 200m dah at 4:40 PM, then five Tigers will make up half the 5000m field at 4:55 PM as Itay Magidi, Sean Reilly and Greg Isaacs take to the track. Clemson’s Richards, Cheney, Bolling and Gardner are set to compete in the 4x400m relay at 5:40 PM to round out Clemson’s track events.

This year’s meet will also serve as the finals meet for the ninth annual Clemson Relays for third, fourth and fifth grade elementary school students. This year’s third grade finalists are (in order of fastest to slowest qualifying times) Keowee, Westminster, Central, Clemson and Hagood Elementary Schools. The fourth grade 8×75 yard race will include Clemson, Central, Walhalla, Fair Oak and Northside Elementray Schools, while the fifth grade race will be comprised of Clemson, Code, Walhalla, Central and Westminster Elementary Schools.
