Track and Field Participates in Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, Ga.–As students finished final exams and headed home for the summer, several members of the Clemson Track and Field team participated at the Georgia Invitational today. The Tigers had an extraordinary day where they captured three first place victories, one second place, four third place and five fourth place spots. A total of 11 new times were added to the season’s best top times.

The Lady Tigers had two victories, the 200m dash and 100m hurdles. Simone Brown won the 200m dash in a time of 24.3. Nikkie Bouyer took first in the 100m hurdles, as teammate Racquel Shaw came in third with a personal best time of 14.16 for the season. Bouyer also ran the fourth fastest time of the season in the 100m dash taking third place in a time of 11.73.

Senior Samantha Watt snatched third in the 400m dash in a time of 55.83 and fourth in the 200m dash in 24.37 seconds.

The men performed well as Tony Washington took third in the 400m hurdles (52.51) and fourth in the 110m hurdles (14.75). Davidson Gill placed fourth in the 800m dash in a time of 47.93, the fastest thus far for the season. Shaun Murphy came in tenth in the 800m with a time of 1:55.16, the second best time of the season. Joe Gibson finished fifth in the 1,500m run in a time of 3:52.65.

In field action, freshmen Wendy Blankenship and Kammie Blount both took fourth but placed personal best marks. Blankenship leaped to personal and season best vault of 10 feet, as Blount threw a javelin distance of 40.18m.

Jorge Tienda snatched first in the pole vault with 17’02.75″. Walhalla native Jason Brewer jumped a 6’10.75 personal best in the high jump, placing him second in the event.
