CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team will travel to Syracuse, NY to face ACC newcomer Syracuse on Thursday, September 26 at 7 PM at the SU Soccer Stadium. It will be the Tigers’ first Atlantic Coast Conference road game of the 2013 season.
The Tigers (5-2-2, 2-1 ACC) are coming off three consecutive wins at Historic Riggs Field, including two in ACC play – a 2-1 victory versus Boston College on September 15 and a 2-0 win over Pittsburgh on September 19. Clemson’s most recent win was a 14-0 rout of Alabama A&M on September 22, in which the Tigers set new Clemson and ACC records for goals scored in a single game. In road games so far this season, the Tigers are 0-0-2, having played to double-overtime ties at Auburn and at USF in August.
Clemson is led in scoring by senior midfielder Vanessa Laxgang with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Freshman forward Catrina Atanda has four goals for eight points to rank second on the team. Freshman keeper Kailen Sheridan has started all nine games in goal for the Tigers and has allowed just six goals and tallied 24 saves in 785 minutes of play.
Syracuse 4-5-1 (0-3-1 ACC), is coming off a 1-0 loss to #7 Notre Dame in South Bend and a 2-2 double-overtime tie against #18 Duke in Syracuse. Sophomore forward Erin Simon leads the Orange in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Senior keeper Brittany Anghel has allowed 15 goals and collected 34 saves in 920 minutes in goal through 10 games.
Thursday’s meeting will be the first ever matchup between Clemson and Syracuse in women’s soccer.
