Tigers to Host Gamecocks in Palmetto Series Showdown

The Clemson women’s soccer team is set to host a Palmetto Series rivalry match against the South Carolina Gamecocks on September 15 at 6 p.m. under the lights at Historic Riggs Field.

The Tigers hold the all-time series record at 13-11-1 while also dominating the scoring column with a 36-24 goal advantage. However, No. 20 Clemson and No. 7 South Carolina have found similar results this season as both teams hold national rankings in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.

Offensively, the Tigers have outscored opponents 14-2 on the year with five of Clemson’s goals coming off the foot of junior forward Mariana Speckmaier. Speckmaier also leads the way with a staggering .800 shots on goal percentage through six games. Sophomore defender Renee Guion will be a threat to opposing teams as she holds a tie for the national lead with seven assists thus far.

Scouting the Gamecocks

The reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week member, Anna Patten will start in the lineup for the Gamecocks. Patten shares a unique connection with the Tigers as her and Clemson senior netminder Sandy MacIver played together as a part of the England Senior National Team training camp this fall. In addition to Patten, South Carolina senior forward Elexa Bahr’s four assists and three game-winning goals are enough to place her as 14th and 4th best in the country respectively.

Game Information

Sunday’s matchup will be aired live on ACCN with former Clemson men’s soccer player and recently retired professional Oguchi Onyewu on the call.
