Tigers Split Day Against No. 6 NC State, College of Charleston

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers (18-5, 6-4) split the day as they dropped a 4-1 match over No. 6 NC State (18-4,10-0) and swept the College of Charleston (7-7) 7-0 on Sunday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility.

Clemson 1, NC State 4

The Tigers brought the energy early as they dominated in doubles. Viktor Markov and Wissam Abderahman swiftly defeated William Manning and Nikolay Nedelchev of NC State 6-3. Seconds after, Romain Gales and Max Damm secured the doubles point for the Tigers in an impressive 6-4 win over the No. 23 ranked duo of Luca Staeheli and Jules Leroux.

No. 31 Noa Vukadin and Max Smith led No. 9 Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek 5-4 as doubles concluded. 

In singles, Clemson continued to battle but the Wolfpack were quick to secure two set victories and close out the match, 4-1. The Tigers become the second ACC team to take the doubles point from NC State as No. 5 Virginia is the only other team to do so this season. 

Clemson 7, College of Charleston 0

In doubles, the Tigers dominated as Vukadin and Smith swept Charleston’s Mattia Bernardi and Eddie Vo, 6-0 on court one. Closing out the victories in doubles was Damm and Markov as they took down the Charleston duo on court two 6-3 to secure the doubles point.

In singles, Vukadin was first to secure a win as he took down Bernardi 6-1, 6-1 on court one. Following Vukadin was Smith as he tabbed a victory on court four as he downed Charleston’s Matias Gaedechens 6-3, 6-0. Clinching the match for the Tigers was freshman Edoardo Cheire Ligniere as he took the 6-1, 6-2 win on court five. 

Earning the final singles wins for the Tigers was Matt Pitts, Romain Gales and Viktor Markov as Clemson earned a 7-0 sweep over the Cougars. 

Up next, the Tigers will host their final regular season home match against Georgia Tech on Friday, April 11. The match is slated for 6 p.m. ET and will be the program’s Senior Day match as the team is set to honor Max Smith, Matt Pitts and Max Damm.
