Tigers Ready For ACC Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. — For the seventh straight year and 12th time in the last 13 seasons, the ACC Rowing Championship will be held on Lake Hartwell. Clemson’s six-lane race course will be home to nine schools — including the Tigers — on Friday and Saturday. Qualifying races will be held Friday, starting at 6 p.m., with grand and petite finals set to start Saturday at 8:05 a.m. Saturday’s action will be streamed live by ESPN3. Admission is free both days.

“We are looking forward to this weekend’s racing; the conference as a whole has been raising the standard and we are eager to show that we can compete to that standard,” said Head Coach Stephen Frazier Wong. “To do that, however, we focus on living up to our own expectations and taking care of our individual responsibilities.  Each rower, coxswain, coach, and staff member is committed to fulfilling their role to create success for the team.

Virginia, ranked fifth nationally in the latest CRCA poll, is the No. 1 seeded boat in each of the five races. The Cavaliers have claimed every ACC title but one, which was claimed by the Tigers in Oak Ridge, Tenn., in 2009. In addition to UVa, Notre Dame (15), Syracuse (16), and Duke (19) are also ranked in the latest CRCA poll.

The Tigers return to action for the first time after their most recent competition at the Tennessee Invite on May 1. Clemson is the No. 6 seed in the 1V8 and 2V8 and No. 4 in the other three events.
