Tigers Ranked 13th; Mijacika Remains At #1 In Latest Tennis Poll

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team earned the #13 national ranking in Tuesday’s Campbell/ITA Tennis poll, extending its streak to 15 consecutive weeks in the Top 25. Tiger junior Ani Mijacika held onto her #1 singles ranking for the second straight poll while rookie Josipa Bek was listed at #10, making Head Coach Nancy Harris’ squad the only team in the country with two top 10 players.

Clemson has been ranked among the top 15 teams nationally in all nine polls in 2009 and currently owns a 10-5 record for the year. The Tigers most recently defeated Florida State and Central Florida on the road and will face ACC opponents Virginia Tech and Virginia this weekend at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.

Mijacika, returning from an in jury that sidelined her for three weeks, kept her #1 singles ranking in consecutive polls for the first time in her career. The junior from Makarska, Croatia boasts wins over five players currently ranked in the top 10 for a 22-5 overall record.

Bek is spending her second straight poll in the top 10 with a 22-7 record for the fall and spring seasons combined. She is 12-6 when facing a ranked opponent and has primarily played at the second singles position for the Tigers this season.

Three other Clemson players were ranked in singles while a pair of Tiger doubles teams were listed. Estefania Balda was ranked at #95 with a 7-7 record during the dual season, while Ina Hadziselimovic moved up three positions to #114.

The tandem of Mijacika and Wong were ranked eighth after spending the last poll at #10. The Clemson duo owns an 8-2 overall record with four wins over ranked opponents. The Tiger team of Bek and Hadziselimovic was listed 37th with a 6-4 record for the year.
