Clemson, SC-Clemson is ranked in the top 12 in the nation in both college golf polls this week. The Tigers are 11th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll, while Larry Penley’s team is 12th in the most recent Golf World Coaches Poll. Clemson is the highest ranked ACC team in the Golf World Coaches poll and second to Georgia Tech in the Golfweek poll.
Clemson finished third at the recent ACC Tournament at The Old North State Club and will receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament on Monday, May 7. The Tigers will begin play at one of three regional sites on May 17-19. The regional site options are The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, GA, Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, IL and The Karsten Golf Club in Tempe, Arizona.
Individually, Clemson freshman Kyle Stanley is ranked ninth in the nation in the Sagarin/Golfweek rankings. The freshman from Gig Harbor, WA has played in eight tournaments this year and has finished in the top 20 in all eight events, including a third place at the ACC Tournament two weekends ago.
Stanley has a rating of 69.74 according to Sagarin, the top ranking among ACC players. Roberto Castro of Georgia Tech is second among ACC players at 69.85 and is 11th in the nation overall. Stanley has a 71.38 stroke average for the season, on pace to break D.J. Trahan’s Clemson freshman record of 72.48.
