CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team opened the 2014 spring exhibition season on Saturday, March 1 with a 2-1 victory over SEC-foe Georgia at Historic Riggs Field. Incoming freshman Shannon Horgan (Long Beach, NY), who enrolled at Clemson in January 2014, scored both goals in the Tiger win.
The Tigers’ first goal was scored in the first of three 30-minute periods off of a corner kick. The score remained 1-0 through two periods until an own goal by Clemson tied the game at 1-1. Later in the third period, Horgan netted her second goal to preserve the win.
“It was good to get the first game of the spring under our belt. The kids were excited to play and we appreciated playing a quality opponent in Georgia,” said Head Coach Eddie Radwanski. “Yes, it was nice to get the result, but even more so, it was good to see a lot of different people out there playing and taking advantage of the opportunity.”
Clemson will return to action at Historic Riggs Field on Saturday, March 8 versus Tennessee at 1 PM. Admission is free and the game is open to the public.
