Match Notes:

  • The Tigers opened the season on Thursday, Jan. 28 with a 4-3 victory on the road at Virginia Tech. Clemson won the doubles point, and then three freshmen, Ayan Broomfield, Ally Miller-Krasilnikov and Jenny Moinard won their singles matches to clinch the victory over the Hokies.
  • Joana Eidukonyte is the number-one ranked player in the nation in singles according to the ITA preseason poll released Jan. 5. The senior from Vilnius, Lithuania was 11-5 in fall tournament play, which included advancing to the finals of the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. in November.
  • Freshman Fernanda Navarro is ranked 59th in singles, and is 11-1 in tournament play, most recently claiming the Flight 1 singles title at the Duckworth Winter Classic two weeks ago.
  • The Bulldogs are 2-0 on the season, with a pair of 4-0 wins over Wyoming and Old Dominion in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Athens, Ga. on Jan. 22-24.
  • Clemson has a 22-27 record in the series against Georgia, and is 8-13 all-time in matches played in Athens.
  • The last time the two teams met, on Jan. 31, 2015, the Bulldogs narrowly defeated the Tigers, 4-3, at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. Eidukonyte and Tristen Dewar both won singles matches in that contest.
