Tigers Continue Their ITA Regional Championship Run

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Clemson Tigers continued their ITA Regional Championships at UNC-Chapel Hill competition on Friday, October 20th, and are set for more matchups tomorrow.

Sophia Hatton lost to Linge Steenkamp of UNC Asheville by a score of 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 4-6 in the A2 round 32.

In the qualifying singles bracket, Leigh Van Zyl moved on to the round of 16 due to a bye in the round of 32. Van Zyl will take on Brenda Yoris at a later time and day.

In the A1 singles bracket, Alina Tsyurpalevych defeated Grace Thomas of Furman University in the round of 32 by a score of 7-5, 6-3. Tsyurpalevych moved on to the round of 16 and will take on Misa Malkin from the University of South Carolina on Saturday, October 21st, at 9 a.m. Eleni Louka defeated Nevena Caron of Wake Forest in the round of 32 by a score of 7-5, 6-1. Louka will move on to the round of 16 to play Emma Jackson from Duke University on October 21st at 9 a.m.

In the A2 singles bracket, Cristina Mayorova defeated Anna Babyan of Coastal Carolina in the round of 32 by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Mayorova will take on Shahar Biran of Furman University on October 21st at 9 a.m. Jenna Thompson also defeated Eda Arli of UNC Wilmington in the round of 32 by a score of 6-2,7-5. Thompson will take on Theadora Rabman of UNC-Chapel Hill on October 21st at 10 a.m.

In the doubles A1 bracket on Friday, Hatton and Tsyurpalevyech lost to Gina Dittmann and Maddy Zampardo of North Carolina in the round of 16 by a score of 7-8 (5-7). Mayorova and Van Zyl beat Macy Hitchcock and Eleanor Schulson of Furman University in the round of 16 by a score of 8-4. Later in the day, the pair competed in the quarterfinals and lost to Sophie Abrams and Anna Zyryanova of North Carolina State University by scoring 6-8.  

In the doubles A2 bracket, Louka and Thompson, in the round of 16, beat Lucia Gomez and Gabriella Glickstien of UNC Wilmington by a score of 8-4. The pair later played in the quarterfinals, losing to Abbey Forbes and Reilly Tran of UNC-Chapel Hill by a score of 3-8.
