Norman, Okla. – The Clemson women’s golf team opened up the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma with a 294 team score. The Tigers sit in 9th place as a team after the first round of play.
Freshman Savannah Grewal shot the team’s lowest score on the day with a 2-over par opening round score. Her lone birdie on the day came on the ninth hole to sit her at 1-over at the turn.
Golfing out of the number five spot, Lindsay May added her score to the team total after a 3-over par effort through the first 18 holes of the tournament. She had the most individual birdies on the team through day one with two, three other Tigers had one.
Alexandra Swayne, who is golfing out of the number four position, came into the clubhouse with a 4-over score. After a stellar performance at the Mason Rudolph Championship, Swayne added her score once again for the first round total. She remains in the top-30 individuals at the tournament.
The number one and two golfers for Clemson, Ivy Shepherd and Ana Paula Valdes both concluded the first day of action with five-over par scores. Valdes has six bogeys and one birdie on the day with Shepherd finding the same score with four bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie — all of which came in the first nine holes.
After the first day of competition, host team Oklahoma leads the field with a two-over team score. Texas and Alabama round out the top three, sitting back one and two shots off the lead respectively.
The Tigers return to action at the Schooner Fall Classic on Saturday for the second round. Live scoring of the event can be found on Golfstat.com.
