Tigers Conclude First Round At Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. – After the first round of competition at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational, the Clemson women’s golf team sits in 12th place after a 295, seven-over par team score. The UNC Finley par 72 course challenged the 18-team field with over half of the field falling over par through the first 18 holes of action.

Ivy Shepherd continued her hot streak, leading the Tigers with a two-under par score. Shepherd had an eventful first round of action, knocking in her second eagle through three tournaments on the third hole. However, she would find most of her success on the back nine where she was able to sink three birdies. Currently, Shepherd has found a home in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard.

Ana Paula Valdes battled the course all day, managing to etch five birdies on her scorecard. Even with a three-under par score after nine holes of play, Valdes entered the clubhouse one-over on the day. Alexandra Swayne fired a three-over par on the day to add to the Clemson team score with Savannah Grewal and Lindsay May both shooting five-over par to round out the competition.

Wake Forest leads all teams after opening up the tournament with a six-under par performance. However, Kentucky and Alabama follow close behind with five-under par scores and host team North Carolina and Ohio State round out the top-five teams with a four-under par effort. On the individual leaderboard, Aneka Seumanutafa of Ohio State posted a staggering six-under par score through 18 holes.

Clemson returns to action tomorrow morning with live scoring available on golfstat.com.
