Tiger Women’s Tennis To Play In Furman Fall Classic

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team will participate in its fifth consecutive Furman Fall Classic this weekend. The three-day event will begin on Friday, Sept. 29 at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, SC and will continue through Sunday, Oct. 1.

Three Clemson freshman will see their first collegiate action as six singles players and two doubles teams will compete in the tournament. Ani Mijacika, a freshman from Makarska, Croatia will play in the flight one singles bracket, while sophomore Alexandra Luc will play at flight two. In the flight three bracket, junior Kathi Gerber will compete for Clemson, while freshman Selma Babic, a native of Zenica, Bosnia, will compete at flight four. Rookie Ina Hadziselimovic will play in the flight five bracket and Samantha Eppelsheimer, a freshman from Mt. Pleasant, SC, will compete at flight six.

Tiger veterans Carol Salge and Federica van Adrichem will play in the flight one doubles bracket. The Clemson duo is ranked in the preseason doubles poll, earning the #9 position after finishing with a 12-10 record last season and the 21st ranking in the final poll. Babic and Hadziselimovic will also participate in the pairs competition at flight three.

This year’s Classic also includes players from Furman, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin and consists of seven singles flights and four doubles draws. Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles will be played on Friday, beginning at 9:00 am. The doubles championship will take place on Saturday, while the singles final will occur on Sunday.
