Tiger Women’s Soccer Team Falls to Virginia Tech in Overtime Thursday

BLACKSBURG, VA – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to Virginia Tech by a score of 2-1 in overtime in Blacksburg, VA on Thursday evening. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 3-6 (0-1 ACC), while the Hokies improve to 7-2 (1-0 ACC).

Virginia Tech put the game’s first goal on the board in the 12th minute of play when Jennifer Harvey tapped the ball into the net off of a Hokie throw-in.

Clemson sophomore forward Tara Cort evened the score with just 15 seconds remaining in the first half. Following a Virginia Tech foul, sophomore defender Ashlynne Bass sent a long free kick into the box. After a scramble for the ball, Cort came up with it and sent it into the net for her second goal of the season.

The two teams played a scoreless second half and the game went into overtime tied at 1-1. Julian Johnson scored the game winner six minutes into the first overtime period to give the Hokies the 2-1 victory.

The Tigers will now travel from Blacksburg to Charlottesville, VA for their second of three consecutive ACC road contests. Clemson will face 11th-ranked Virginia on Sunday, September 27 at 2:00 PM at Klockner Stadium.
