RALEIGH, NC – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to N.C. State on Thursday evening by a score of 2-1 at Dail Soccer Stadium in Raleigh, NC. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 3-8 (0-3 ACC), while the Wolfpack improves to 7-3-1 (2-1 ACC).
The first 58 minutes of the game were scoreless, until Kara Blosser put the Wolfpack on the board at the 58:50 mark. Tiger senior midfielder Katie Vogel scored her first goal of the season at the 62:58 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Freshman defender Heather Marik recorded her first career assist on the play. Blosser netted the game winner for N.C. State in the 68th minute.
“This is a disappointing loss,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “We keep talking about the pitfalls to avoid and what we need to do, but sometimes we just don’t do it. We have to compete harder and at a more consistent level than we are currently.
“It becomes even more difficult when we put ourselves in a hole like we did tonight. We were able to get one back to even it up, but then we lost it again. We have to take responsibility for the loss and move forward.”
The Tigers will return home to play host to Wake Forest on Sunday, October 4 in the team’s first ACC home contest. Sunday’s game between Clemson and the ninth-ranked Demon Deacons will begin at 2:00 PM at Historic Riggs Field.
