CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s soccer team fell to Furman by a score of 2-1 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers fall to 2-4 with the loss, while the Lady Paladins improve to 6-1. Freshman midfielder Callie Cavanaugh was named to the Carolina’s Cup All-Tournament team for Clemson.

Katya Gokhman put the Lady Paladins on the board less than five minutes into the game. The Tigers evened the score with just over a minute left in the first half, when sophomore defender Stefanie Schroeder netted her first career goal. A loose ball in the box drew the Furman goalkeeper out of the net. Schroeder came up with the loose ball and sent it into an open net.

Neither team scored in the second half of play, and with the score still tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the game went into overtime. Less than three minutes into the first overtime period, Gokhman scored her second goal of the day to give the Lady Paladins the victory.

“There is a collective responsibility and a collective attitude that we need to bring on a consistent basis,” said Head Coach Hershey Strosberg. “I was pleased that we scored right before the end of the first half. We have shown that we have the ability to score against anyone, but we have to play on both sides of the ball and we have to do that for the entire game. We just aren’t doing that right now.”

Clemson will play host to Georgia and Presbyterian next weekend at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers will take on the Bulldogs on Friday, September 18 at 7:00 PM and will face the Blue Hose on Sunday, September 20 at 12:00 PM.
