GREENVILLE, SC – The 13th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team posted its fourth straight victory with a 6-1 victory over #75 Furman in Greenville, SC on Friday afternoon. The Tigers improved to 6-1 on the year while the Paladins fell to 1-4 overall.
Clemson clinched the doubles point with victories at the flights one and three positions. Maria Brito and Alexandra Luc won their six consecutive match as they defeated the Paladin team of Lisa Bornt-Davis and Lauren Tomory, 8-3, at flight three. After Furman’s duo of Jacqueline Eckert and Lauren Osborne won an 8-5 decision over Estefania Balda and Ina Hadziselimovic at the second position, Clemson’s 37th-ranked tandem of Carol Salge and Federica van Adrichem posted an 8-6 decision against Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic in the flight one contest.
The Tigers then won five of the six singles positions with their only loss coming at flight one as Salge retired due to an injury. Gioia posted the win. At flight two, Balda claimed a three-set match over Osborne, 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-1. Van Adrichem then won easily over Bonnie Baird at flight three, 6-2, 6-0, while Hadziselimovic defeated Manojlovic by a 6-3, 6-1 margin at the number four position. Brito then won a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Tomory in the flight five contest and Selma Babic defeated Wanjiku Ngaruiya at number six, 6-2, 6-2.
Clemson will return to the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center on Wednesday, as the Tigers will play host to SEC rival Georgia. The teams are scheduled to take to the court at 2:30 pm.
