Tiger Tennis To Conclude 2006 Regular Season

April 14, 2006

CLEMSON, SC – The 21st-ranked Tiger women’s tennis team (13-6, 6-3 ACC) will conclude the 2006 regular season this weekend when it plays host to NC State (15-6, 4-5 ACC) and Wake Forest (12-6, 5-4 ACC). Clemson and the Wolfpack, listed 36th in the most recent Fila/ITA Tennis poll, will meet at 11:00 AM on Saturday, while the Tigers and the 16th-ranked Demon Deacons are scheduled to begin play at 12:00 PM on Easter Sunday.

Clemson has posted a 7-1 record this season when playing at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center and sophomore Carol Salge is undefeated in singles play in those eight matches. Overall, Salge has compiled a 21-8 record this year while playing at four different flight positions. She earned the top slot last weekend and recorded a 6-0, 6-2 upset of North Carolina’s 57th-ranked Caitlin Collins to help the Tigers to a 4-3 victory.

Saturday’s contest will be the 37th meeting in history between Clemson and NC State with the Tigers dominating the series, 32-4. Clemson has also won all 13 previous match-ups at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center, including a 7-0 victory during the 2004 season. Last year, the Tigers defeated the Wolfpack by a 7-0 margin in Raleigh, NC, for their fifth straight victory over the ACC foe.

Clemson has also claimed the last five contests against Wake Forest to take a 20-17 lead in the series score. The Tigers also hold a 9-5 advantage in matches played on their home court, with their most recent victory at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center coming during the 2004 season. Clemson defeated the Demon Deacons twice last season, claiming a 4-3 decision in Winston-Salem, NC and then winning, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the 2005 ACC Tournament.
