Tiger Singles Player And Doubles Team Qualify For NCAA Individual Championships

CLEMSON, SC – Two members of the Clemson women’s tennis team qualified to compete at the 2004 NCAA Women’s Tennis Individual Championships as released by the NCAA Women’s Tennis Committee on Thursday. Julie Coin will represent the Tigers in the singles draw, while Coin and Maria Brito will compete in the doubles competition. The singles and doubles championships will be held at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex on May 24-29 in Athens, GA.

Coin, a junior from Amiens, France, is currently ranked sixth by the ITA in singles. She was recently named the 2004 ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year after compiling a 7-1 record in conference play at the flight one singles position. She is 24-7 overall in singles this season and has an 18-4 record in dual match play.

Freshman Maria Brito (Mexico City, Mexico) and Coin are ranked 13th according to the ITA doubles poll. The pair has a 24-5 overall record and a 13-2 mark in dual match play. Brito and Coin won the 2003 ITA Southeast Region Doubles Championship during the fall season.
