The Clemson rowing team will host Eastern Michigan on Lake Hartwell this weekend to begin the spring season. The event, which is set to get underway at 9:00 AM Saturday, will be the first of five home regattas for Clemson. The Tiger rowing program will look to continue its momentum from the fall of 2005, where Clemson competed against several of the nation’s top teams in various regattas.
This will mark the third straight spring these two schools have competed against one another. Last year, Clemson swept Eastern Michigan in the five races that were held on Lake Hartwell. The Tigers earned open water victories in each of the five races.
The first race scheduled for Saturday morning will be the varsity 8+ at 9:00 AM. Each school will have one boat entered in the varsity 8+, as well as the second varsity 8+ and novice 8+. The second varsity 8+ race is scheduled for 9:20 AM and the novice 8+ will compete at 9:40 AM.
Following those three races, the two schools will split up and compete in two varsity 4+ races. The first race will feature two boats from each school, with the rowers taken from the first varsity 8+. The second race, set for 10:30 AM, will feature two boats of rowers taken from the second varsity 8+.
Clemson is coming off a strong fall season that culminated in the Rivanna Romp in November. At that event, Clemson’s novice 8+ defeated rival Virginia on its home course and also competed with several nationally-renowned programs, including Ohio State and Wisconsin.
